The King's Speech

Finally! I got to see The King's Speech. And....I loved it! Colin Firth was fabulous. Geoffrey Rush was fabulous. I even have to give props to Helena Bonham Carter. I find her an odd choice to play Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, (I keep picturing her as the queen with that big head from the recent Alice in Wonderland movie...) but as a testament to her skill as an actress she was totally believable in the role.

It makes me want to get George VI's biography. So that is my latest mission.

I've mentioned before how enamored I am with the British Monarchy. But I don't think I've really stressed the degree to which my royal obsession runs.

The era I've studied the most (and my favorite) is the Tudor era. Right now I'm knee deep in Stuarts, but I haven't really read much about the recent monarchy. This movie really made me want to learn more about this man who was thrown onto the throne. Can you imagine? The poor guy had such a stammer, no desire to be king, and here he is. The King of England during WWII.

Anyway, I'm happy to be on the hunt for a new book. I'd be a happy girl if all I ever had to do was read and make jewelry!
