Etsy

I'm just mulling around this new advertising thing on Etsy.

I read this in the forums the other day, about why we shouldn't do it.
Previous to reading it I had already signed up for the $5 deal.  I think it gives you 5,000 impressions or something like that.

Then I read the post, and decided I should think about it more.

I'm kinda one of those people that takes things for what they are, and try not to complain about things that are beyond my control.  That being said, my sales have really bombed since they changed the relevancy thing.  And now this advertising thing.

Maybe it's the loss of control I thought I had when I was able to renew items to bump them to the top.  At least I felt like I was doing something to try to get my stuff noticed.

I guess the advertising deal would kinda give me the same feeling, but what I really want to know is if it's worth it.  I guess there's really no way to know without giving it a go right?

Maybe I've already answered my own question.
I think I'll give it a trial run.  I guess it won't be any more than I was spending on renewing.

I don't know.

What do you guys think?

  3. Me again....I just checked out the Etsy Ad and I am thoroughly confused with the keywording. The keywords they chose for me...most are very specific to certain items only. I understand I can remove them but am I also understanding I actually have to "purchase" a keyword if I want to use a different one...I have to BUY keywords???

  4. I didn't even see that we could buy keywords! How much are they selling those for? I'll have to look into it again....

  5. Kirsten, I tried facebook ads before. They really ticked me off. You can supposedly program it to only spend a certain amount. I set the limit at $ 20. They sent me a bill for nearly $ 30. Not a huge difference, but enough to not use them again.

  6. I am trying it out. We'll see. I've chosen only a few items from my shop and tweaked my keywords to take out the most expensive ones.

You don't buy keywords from what I understand but each keyword used is charged a different value per impression. "sterling" is the most expensive one I had that was $5 for 1000 impressions. A far cry from the 5000 that was initially indicated. But I removed that one and left silver. I think most searching for "sterling" may be looking for flat ware more than jewelry. Anyway, you never know if you don't try.

  7. I've signed up already too. Basically did the moment it was offered. I hardly renew anymore, so I figured I would give it one shot and see what becomes of it. I don't like all the changes personally.

  8. I'll be curious to see what you think, I've been on etsy for a long time, I remember when my work would make the front page at least once a month but etsy is a monster now.

  9. I'm with you...I jumped on the wagon before I really knew all the details. Now, I'm thinking maybe I should have save my $$. The more I find out, the more confused I am. I'm already signed on, so I'll see how it works.

  10. I've signed up for it too, Amy...just to try it out and see how it all works.

I figure $5 isn't a huge outlay if it doesn't do anything for my shop!

  11. I just looked into this today and bought the 5 dollar one. After reading all the stuff in the forms I cancelled the ads. I think i will wait and see what happens once it all starts and then make a decision.
